Research In Motion (RIM) has developed world-class development tools to help you create world-class applications. The tools RIM developers use to create core BlackBerry® applications are available to the development community at no cost and are constantly being updated to include the latest features.
Java Development Tools
The BlackBerry® JDE Plug-in for Eclipse™ extends the industry-standard Eclipse® development platform to allow developers to build their BlackBerry Java® applications in a familiar environment. The extensions to Eclipse include RIM Controlled APIs, BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators and the BlackBerry® Signing Authority Tool.
The BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) is a legacy, standalone, integrated development environment that contains similar tools.
Synchronization Server SDK
The Synchronization Server SDK provides third-party developers the ability to develop custom data source connectors for the wireless synchronization between a BlackBerry smartphone and data repository. The connectors ensure that when data records are updated on the server, the corresponding changes are pushed out to the local information stored on the BlackBerry smartphone. There are a wide variety of repositories which can be extended quickly and efficiently.

BlackBerry Application Web Loader
The BlackBerry Application Web Loader v1.1 can simplify the deployment of third-party applications to BlackBerry smartphones. It provides an additional alternative to existing over-the-air (OTA) and BlackBerry® Desktop Manager methods.
Developers can centrally host applications on a company intranet or public webserver, making it easy to post application updates for BlackBerry users to download as they’re available. By simply connecting their BlackBerry smartphone to a PC via USB connection and visiting this hosted website, users can load applications to their BlackBerry smartphone without installing the BlackBerry Desktop Manager or incurring airtime charges associated with OTA downloads.
